Waterford Plaza is a proud, active member of the local community.
As such, we are involved in a number of local initiatives and would love you to get involved to!
We were so happy to see the HOME Karawara initiative that Waterford Plaza is proud to be part of featured in the latest City of South Perth 'Peninsula' Magazine. If you would like more information on the various community activities currently running, make sure to contact the City of South Perth's Community Development Project Officer on 9474 0777.
We Need Your Help!
We are in URGENT need of food donations for our Waterford Plaza Food Store community initiative. If you have any unused items in your pantry we would very much appreciate you donating them to those in need in our local community, via our Food Store collection bins, located outside both IGA and Coles.
You can also drop any food items into the centre management office. Thanking you in advance!
LIFESTREAM CHURCH - COMMUNITY DINNER
Once again Waterford Plaza was very honoured to be part of the regular community dinner held by our community partner Lifestream Church South Perth, in conjunction with the City of South Perth, Richmond Wellbeing and Southcare.
The centre donated food platters that were used during the event, which is aimed at providing assistance for those at risk in the local community and to provide a support system and links to groups that can help.
Hello, Baby Bryan Jnr!
Little baby Bryan Jnr paid us a visit today at the Centre Management Office in his new pram, donated as part of our recent donation drive 😀👌
He looks so comfortable! Big thanks to everyone for getting behind the drive and donating so many wonderful items. They have all gone to local families currently doing it tough and very much appreciated.
NEW COMMUNITY GARDENING INITIATIVE
Today we were working in conjunction with Southcare Inc Men's Group and Moorditj Keila Marman's Group on a new community gardening initiative.Waterford Plaza has donated money towards both groups for the purchasing of gardening equipment, which will allow their members to conduct gardenings works around the local community.
As an extension of our work with the Waterford Plaza Food Store and association with the Karawara Steering Committee, we are currently chasing donations of blankets for the upcoming colder months. Donations can be dropped off at our Centre Management Office, located on the Walana Avenue side of the centre.
Warm thanks - Centre Management
URGENT CALL OUT!
As part of our work with the Waterford Plaza Food Store, providing local food assistance to those families most at risk, we are in urgent need of tinned soup donations for the upcoming colder months.
We would be more than happy to accept even one tin and would invite you to place a donation in one of our Food Store collections bins, located either outside Coles and Supa IGA or pop them into the Centre Management Office.
Warm thanks - Centre Management
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
A big thanks to everyone who took note of our recent call out online and donated their old baby clothes, toys and prams 😀👍 We were inundated with donations from local residents and the centre management office was full to the brim! All the items will now be distributed to families in the Karawara committee currently suffering financial hardship.
FEED YOUR NEIGHBOUR
As part of the Waterford Plaza Food Store initiative we are now accepting food donations from the public, which will directly go to those local families currently doing it tough, in the form of food assistance bags.
You will find our green donation bins located in both the Coles and Supa IGA Supermarkets. Any non-perishable food donation, big or small, will be gratefully accepted.
So far we have been able to put together a great collection of food donated from both our Waterford Plaza retailers and customers (see below), but as items go quickly we are always needing to re-stock - so would love your help!
THE WATERFORD PLAZA FOOD STORE
HOW IT WORKS
The Waterford Plaza Food Store collects food and groceries from local retailers, including product that is close to the best before / expiry date, has incorrect labelling or damaged packaging, as well as excess stock and deleted lines that can't be sold through normal retail channels.
Due to the variety of product we collect, we are unable to cater specifically for any special dietary requirements such as coeliac or diabetic. it will be a case of receiving only what is available at the time.
We are then able to pass on these products to those in need in our local community (postcode area 6152 only at this stage). Those who qualify need to be locals in need of food for their family and in receipt of a Government Health Care Card.e
We aim to assist with the short term incidents of hunger and prevent theft in the local area with the assistance of the local community and retailers. It is not intended to be an ongoing single source of supply for individuals, rather assistance for temporary hard times.
To apply online, please complete the below application form and press submit.
Waterford Plaza Work Experience Program
As part of our continued support of those in our local community, we have partnered with our on-site contractors ICONIC to provide work experience opportunities for those youth at risk.
To apply for a position you will need to fill out an application form and attend a small interview. Print out a copy of the application form HERE or grab a hard copy from the Waterford Plaza Centre Management Office.
For more information, please contact the Centre Manager, Vivienne Steur, on (08) 9450 6095.
Community Initiatives - Updates
back-to-school uniform/backpack donations (Friday, 3 march 2017)
A big thank you to the wonderful staff at Kensington Primary School for their lovely card we received in the office on Friday 3 March. It was a pleasure working with you and helping to provide back-to-school essentials for your school kids in need.
back-to-school free bbq event (Tuesday, 31 January 2017)
We had a great turnout today for the Back-to-School BBQ free community event held at #WaterfordPlaza as part of the Karawara Steering Committee's endeavour to connect with those local families at risk and currently doing it tough, especially in the lead up to children heading back to school.
The event was sponsored by Richmond Wellbeing, City of South Perth, Southcare Inc, Maar Mooditj Training, Mooditj Keila and Waterford Plaza, all of who had representatives available to talk with families and provide help where needed.
It was also the first opportunity for the centre to hand out our back-to-school backpacks filled with necessary items and our food assistance bags, which were gratefully received (see image below). :
WATERFORD PLAZA FOOD STORE (TUESDAY, 24 JANUARY 2017)
We have been overwhelmed with the show of support for our Waterford Plaza Food Store by the local community and our retailers, with a big shout out going to Coles, Supa IGA and Natural Choice for their generous donations. So far we have been able to gather enough items to put together 17 food assistance bags and 20 back-to-school bags (see image below). 😀(s
Applications have started to come through for assistance and we are so happy to be in a position to offer help to those local families doing it tough.
Donations of food and household items are still welcome and can be placed in our collection boxes located in both the IGA or Coles mall.
WATERFORD PLAZA work experience program (wednesday, 15 february 2017)
We are very excited to announce our very first local work experience person, Bryan, started today on-site at Waterford Plaza working with our on-site contractors ICONIC (pictured left is Bill). They both worked together today on providing Bryan with valuable skills in gardening and cleaning.
